What Happens on Day 1 of an FUE Hair Transplant?
![]()
Day one of an FUE hair transplant is long and structured. You are not “in and out in an hour.” Most of the day
is mapping, numbing, extracting, and placing follicular units at the planned angle. Knowing the sequence
reduces surprise.
Morning: consent, photos, and hairline
You check in, review health questions, and take baseline photos. The physician marks the hairline and recipient
zones while you sit upright. This is the time to speak up if a line looks too low or too straight. Once numbing
starts, design changes are harder.
Extraction and placement
After local anesthesia, the team extracts grafts from the donor zone, usually the back and sides of the scalp.
Grafts are stored in a holding solution. Recipient sites are then opened at a depth and angle that match
neighboring hair. Placement follows. Breaks for comfort are normal. You will hear counts. Those numbers are a
plan, not a contest.
For a general medical description of how grafts are moved, see the Mayo Clinic hair transplant overview.
Cendant’s day still follows its own physician protocol.
Going home the same day
You leave with written aftercare, a way to reach the clinic, and a covering if needed. Sleep instructions matter
more than most people expect. The work of day one is logistics and precision, not instant coverage.
